Cernunn, Cernunnos, the Horned One, celtic God of hunters, fertility and wealth. He is one of the most known archetypes of the God in Wiccan tales. Ask a Wiccan about his Gods, and he will answer you: we believe in the Horned God and the Great Goddess.
In the ancient times, long before celts, there were cave murals with the image of a Horned God - an iconography of Cernunn already existed in the era of shamanism and animism, but he had no name.
So, what do we know about Cernunnos?
He is the ancient one, born by Anu, Mother of all Life, according to celts's tales. He is a Green Man, warden and guardian of the Forest and all his inhabitants. He is the King of leaves, a Forest King, mentioned by Goethe, merciful to all living and furious in his rage to enemies of the Forest.
He is a Horned God, full of wealth and fertility, father of all Life in our world, father to himself and son to himself, according to the Wheel of a Year. His horns symbolize his hypostasy of a Hunter and Druid, they also a symbol of a Man, Male - as you can remember, among deers only males have horns. Cernunn is a master of the Wild Hunt, brings Death and Life with him.
Celts prayed to Cernunnos in many cases. For children's health, for mercy while stucked the forest, for good hunt, for a new child to family, for joy and happiness, for quick death and for victory in the battle - he heard every crying and praying.
And he will hear you now - old Gods didn't die. Praise him like it did our ancestors and you'll certainly get what you asked for.
