Just like before you do a loaded squat - most people would warm up with some mobility, bodyweight squats, unloaded barbell squats.

Just a couple of reps of each are shown in the video.  Normally I would do about 5 each way of the following: *Wrist circles - a few each direction
*Palms down, fingers pointing away - rocking forward / back, side to side
*Palms down, fingers pointing towards us - rocking forward / back, side to side
*Palms facing up, fingers towards us - rocking forward / back
(Moving towards more advanced - being able to place bodyweight like a plank but on the back of your wrists)

The offerings of my friend Carsten Stausberg @martial.movement.arts has been very influential on me in the past couple of years. Some time ago, Carsten presented me his vision of martial arts practice, "Tuning in to oneself, building and learning, engaging in chaotic situations which challnge everything, tuning into oneself and unwiding again...".
This idea has been very prominent in my artistic practice recently, both for my personal development and also to my ideas as a teacher and choreographer. 
Carsten transmits his vision through a space for learning Internal Martial Arts, Bagua Zhang and Brazillian Jiu Jitsu.
Here I use "The Cat Washing it's Head", one of the exrecises that he uploaded to Youtube just a few days ago. Unwiding with the cat and then following a less clear impulse. The integration between the two qualities is not so coherent in my body yet but I will do my best and continue to practice this idea, because I feel a fresh potential and possible interesting developments. (J.S. Bach was very helpful in this mix of ideas, he usually helps!) Carsten is now working on a new project of sharing his knowledge through an online course. His knowledge is an absolute fucking treasure and I highly reccomend to follow his facebook page and to take advantage to learn from someone who's going an extraordinary path to perfect his skills and contributing to the world by sharing them.

A moment of practice of Hooks and rolling point with @tomweksler during our workshop of Conditioning & The Natures Of Partnering last weekend. Dancing with somebody requieres collaboration, which sometimes means giving up some of the personal expectations of how you wish to move and other times means finding new paths and movement coordinations. Both situations are equally important. 
It’s like learning a new discipline or technique: One needs to put aside for a while skills that are acquiered in order to approach and actually be able to learn from the new perspective.

Once you reach a certain level in any skill the best way to further refine it is adding variation that force you to execute it in a different way.

Variety and complexity are of utter importance in training if you want to progress fast. Don’t forget to implement it and use it to your advantage.

The method for being present is fairly simple, but it’s the practice that matters most. 
Most people don’t learn to be present because they don’t practice, not because it’s so hard to do. 
One step at the time, here a few tips: ➡️whatever you’re doing, right now, learn to focus completely on doing that one thing. ➡️Be joyful in whatever practice you’re doing, grateful for being able to do that pose, and fully appreciate every little moment and tactile sensation. ➡️Learn to be aware of your mind, and then bring yourself back to the present moment ➡️Practice, repeatedly in small easy steps. Each practice helps you to find calm in the middle of the traffic of life.

Being on the road doesn’t mean you can’t stay up to your practice of Yoga or any movement as such. 
It’s been a bumpy road travel, lots of hikes and walks through the driest of deserts and salt flats in Chilean and Bolivian remoteness. The grueling Airport wait times and flight hours made my body stiff, yet it did not stop me to sneak in few essentials moves to release stress. Nothing can match up to the peace of getting done some sitting twists, push ups, urdhva Mukha Svanasana using any available traction, Handstands kicks to a quick energizing flow involving standing postures while waking up to the desert sunrise with the sound of birds, donkeys around the lagoon at a far as the smoke from a semi active volcano hazes the horizon. 
To consider Movement of any kind as a medicine for your health is the best gift you can give to yourself. You can practice anytime and anywhere... you don’t require a membership card here! 🙏🏾 #movementculture #movementpractice #yoga #jointhealth #mobility #stayactive @bijoyetakayal

But since we are here and #sidecrow is in fact on the table, consider working on all things twists. This flow is just me effing around, doing what feels good. 
But consider utilizing your side body in all directions when prepping for this arm balance. I am also a huge fan of working on toe stand, chair twists and spinal flexion to get into this bird.

Strength: deficit handstand push up 
Here it is, the 3rep deficit HSPU. 
Does it feel good? Yes! 
Am I going to chase 5 then 10 reps?Not for the moment!
Why?
Because in a general movement approach being strong at slow speed is necessary but far from being the only goal to focus on. At the end of the day strength is velocity specific and you can be strong and slow which basically gives you little advantage in the movement game. 
A lot of attention is given to these moves because they’re impressive and lots of people/ coaches by either lack of education or simply going the easiest way will try to convince you it transfers well to faster moves but that’s WRONG. 
To be fast you have to train fast, to be elastic you have to train elasticity... SPECIFICITY, yes you named it!
Imagine an average powerlifter VS an average parkour practitioner. Now who is the strongest? Who has better jumps? See... In my programming I always use an undulating periodization to work on all qualities (strength, power...) in the same time frame. I advise you to do the same so you keep a certain balance that’ll greatly benefit your practice!

We did it! We put mirrors on the wall!  I loved looking at my Dad’s beautiful paintings, but the number of times I had to tuck someone into the change room with me to look in the mirror and talk posture was embarrassing.  It’s wonderful to move while just feeling but sometimes a quick glance at one’s reflection can sort out some funny alignment and allow you to carry on with other more interesting aspects of your movement practice.  I think our new mirrors look elegant and unobtrusive, they can be used without constantly being confronted with your image. And now, more time for giggles, and toe spreading and deep breathing! In class we talk about The Cliff. Giving yourself the chance to try and most likely fail at something. When it comes to the handstand, can you quiet your mind long enough to kick up over your head and be ok when you fall? Will you allow yourself to practice over and over and then come back tomorrow, and a month later, and commit to the process of learning? Will you put on the humble coat and really be a student?

For many starting out, the ego burns so hot it's a little hard to bare. I know. I'm there most days 😂 You see others making their own moves and rationalize their progress with made up stories that 'it's easy for them.' Not true: practice challenging your jealous rationalization. Maybe they are simply walking the walk.
