It’s something you don’t think about when it comes to growing muscle or losing fat..
It’s almost programmed into us that we should be doing more, we should be training harder, we should be adding more training days, we’re not doing enough steps.
.
Sleep never even gets a thought in nor does it often get talked about and it’s a very common problem these days.
Stress is real, if we don’t get enough sleep it places stress on the body because it’s simply not rested enough..
Training is another stress placed on the body which will need rest in order to recover..
Couple these with day to day busy life, the stress levels begin piling up.
.
Yes everyone is different and will require more or less sleep than the next person but really on average you should be aiming for between 5-8hrs sleep per night.
.
If you’re not getting enough you’ll be sore, you’ll be tired all day, you’ll be lethargic and all in all you’ll probably actually end up moving less during the day because you’re sluggish.
.
If you’re getting enough sleep your recovery will be good, you’ll not be as sore, you’ll simply do more throughout the day because you’re rested and you’re performance in the gym will progress which will lead to better results.
.
Few tips for better sleep..
•Switch off from your phone at least 45mins before you go to bed
•Try reading a book before bed instead of getting hooked on a Netflix series
•Listen to an audio book will you’re in bed
•Make sure the lights are off and the rooms nice and dark
•Don’t go to bed hungry, bank some calories for a meal or snack before bed
.
If all these fail, book an appointment with your doctor and get a quick check up to make sure there’s not an underlying problem and see if they can give you anything to help you drift off.
