Failed conservative treatments often lead to
surgical interventions such as debridement to

It is well known that low back pain (LBP) can have a negative impact on muscles of the low back and pelvic regions. However, very little research has examined the effects of LBP on gluteal muscle 🍑function and size as well as glute training on LBP.

last year, two studies (see citations below) were published that examined these topics and some interesting and maybe not so surprising results 📊were found.

Study 1️⃣: Researchers 👩‍🔬compared females with a history of LBP to those without a history of LBP and found that cross-sectional area of gluteus maximus (GM) was significantly smaller in the LBP group. Additionally, the number of back pain-related healthcare visits was found to be significantly correlated with GM cross-sectional area (smaller GM = more visits).

Study 2️⃣: Individuals with LBP, were found to benefit more from a program that involved exercise and mobilization of the hips and treatment of the spine rather than a program that addressed the spine only.

A major takeaway from this research may be that continuing to train the hips while experiencing back pain and after the pain has resolved may be helpful in terms of getting out of pain and preventing the pain from returning. This cannot be said for sure, but it does appear that hip training may play an important role when it comes to low back health.

Today. Wow. For various reasons today has just been bomb 💣
The BEST POSSIBLE outcome has been reached for today's first physio appointment:
- NO SURGERY
- My ankle reflexes were tested & there's slight movement in the ball of my foot when my calf is squeezed, meaning reattachment and healing is definitely underway.
- I have NO PAIN in my calf, just tenderness behind my ankle where the tear is.
- My foot has been raised 10° so I'm now sitting at a 20° angle. This should increase by 10° every 2 weeks. - I'm allowed to start WEIGHT BEARING as per my own tolerance, progressing up to the use of one crutch if I make it that far within the next 2 weeks. - I'm allowed to start raising my leg forwards, backwards & sideways whilst standing.
- I'm allowed to gently flex my foot downwards and back up for 10 reps, 3-4 times daily.
I've lost all muscle in my left calf, thigh & shin and my waist has grown a full Mickey Thompson tyre HOWEVER even though my progress is slow & gradual it's thankfully positive.

I owe so many thanks to so many people for helping with H, helping me physically & also emotionally. People have come out of the woodworks to check up on me to make sure I'm doing good and really, I'm smashing it. I love you all - you're a bunch of wicked humans 😘 Thank you ♡

I have one heck of a life and I wouldn't trade it despite the long crazy hours, eating and taking pee breaks when you can (which may not happen for a good chunk of your day or probably before bed.... if you remember), want to roll into bed fully clothed because you're too tired to remove all your layers/gear only to get back into them in a few hours, you sleep/nap whenever you have a chance even if it's on the bus ride or at the dinner table at the restaurant (I like my sleep), tons of paperwork/charting to document once everyone has been taken care of which means remembering everything you did that day (worse with two-a-days cuz you may have the same prep or treatment to document twice), we do have crazy adventures and stories and I could go on.... bit of a rant but I'm just taking #pride in what I do.

Never would I have imagined that doing something I loved could so quickly turn into one of the worst experiences of my life.
Whilst participating in a class at a dance festival I was attending I was involved in an accident causing me to be kicked in the back of the head and also falling backwards hitting my head and having my neck crunched in an unnatural position. I am normally one to push through pain - but this time was different. I didn’t know what to do and didn’t have anyone to help me so I did what I could with what I knew - listened to my body.
I left the festival and upon arriving home I just wasn’t feeling right.
By the next morning I had lost feeling in my legs, unable to move, massive concussion and struggled to remember things.
After many many hours of tests, scans and examinations it turns out I had sustained a severe double concussion as well as having nerve damage in both my spine and my neck. I then went in to have 8 months of intensive rehab.
By the end of the first week after the accident I - had lost my own recollection of the events of my accident - Struggled to remember details about myself - Lack of knowledge of my surroundings - Inability to properly speak - Difficulty walking and moving - Unable to see - Severe Sensitivity to light and sound - Unable to eat by myself
With a fabulous medical team of a neurologist, neurological physiotherapist, neuropsychologist, specialised optometrist and many other incredible doctors I was able to begin to overcome some of these issues.
2 years on and I still have to have rehabilitation and I still have many difficulties but definitely a lot better than where I was 2 years ago. Some things, such as my nerve damage, will not completely disappear. All I can do now is learn how to manage it and love with it.
Just so crazy to think something I’ve always been so passionate about, could hurt me this much. I am so grateful for my medical team, my mum and my wonderful support network who have stuck by me through this entire journey. I have learnt a lot from this experience, lessons I hope to be able to pass on.

Ever wonder what an acupuncturist first experience with the treatment was? 🤔 I'll tell you mine... My first acupuncture experience was when I was around 22. I went to UCLA east west medicine for a treatment regarding hip pain from kickboxing. My right hip, lower back and knees were really hurting me from my intense workouts. It was the first time I had even learned about Eastern medicine and was very skeptical. I didn't know anything about it or really believe in it at the time. But, the pain was so bad that I was willing to try anything. I remember hating it. I couldn't sit still for more than 5 minutes and I would have the doctor take the needles out before the session was actually supposed to be over. I couldn't wait to get off the table because I was just so antsy. My first lesson that the the doctor taught me was to be able to be still within myself. He was very helpful and taught me the importance of patience and after a month or so, I started to actually fall asleep during the acupuncture treatments. I learned to be still and calm and loved treatments so much that I didn't want the doctor to come in to take the needles out! As for the pain- it was gone. The treatments helped me listen to my body and not push myself so hard during my workouts 🙏 #ThePiqueExperience

First session of physio done with the awesome guys at @jointdynamics in Quarry Bay. Getting injured is never fun but it's part of being an athlete. Most athletes will experience some sort of injury during their playing time. Getting injuries looked at and treated is incredibly important if you want a long career in your chosen sport.

Got our weekly food haul done today... a little late due to unfortunate events in our family... also got the news today that I did, in-fact, pull a muscle and have to take it easy for a while until it heals... it’s right under the rib cage so basically breathing can prolong the healing process😣 So no CrossFit or any sort of fitness for a minimum of 2 weeks for this woman...
So I will have to remain optimistic and continue with eating healthy at least... I feel so sad because I CRAVE CrossFit and working out and if I don’t stay active, I feel crappy. So I must try not to fall into a beer drinking, vegan pizza eating coma out of misery😭🍻🍕😂 But no promises people!!!!😣😞😩 (on a positive note- I got almond cashew milk today for the first time in MONTHS!!! My 2 loves are both allergic to tree nuts and so I’ve been keeping it out of the house... but today I felt that I needed a little treat... just for me♥️)

Во втором- тебя могут даже посадить!
В третьем в больничку загремишь!

• изучай законы;
• практикуйся;
• психически будь готов к любой ситуации;

Fishing is an industry that kills other innocent wildlife in the water. I’ve been diving and have witnessed firsthand the impact that this industry has on beautiful creatures of the ocean and sea. The much loved turtle is one of them 🐢🔱. On one occasion (not in the one pictured), it took 3 divers 20 minutes underwater to get a shark hook out of a turtle’s flipper without success. The hooks and plastics used by fishing the waters of our earth are entangling, maiming, and killing wildlife. Say no to fishing and eating fish (basic supply and demand). Protect our oceans and sea creatures...please say no 🙏. ❌🙅🏻‍♀️🎣🙅🏻‍♀️❌

Месяц в гипсе это конечно тяжеловато, но людей и на большее время гипсуют. Человек при серьезных переломах сталкивается со многими проблемами и ограничениями- сам перелом (зачастую выброс адреналина заглушает боль и человека, как бы оглушает - некая защитная реакция организма), операция, гипс, перевязки, снятие швов - да и гипс фиксируюет не только поврежденный участок, а ещё и близ расположенные. После длительной носки гипса, «каменеют» все суставы зафиксированные им. Вот и мне теперь придётся разрабатывать кисть. А каково с гипсом в быту (это жесть)- я только 3 недели к нему привыкал - мне ещё повезло, сломал правую 👌😂

Но унывать не стоит, светит солнце 😎 и мы в этот же день стартанули с семьей на велопрогулку- месяц этого момента ждал 😁. (Велики за месяц запылились). Народ не забываем про спорт и главное осторожней - ломаться не надо 😉
