Well, here we are with another artist I've heard little to nothing about, but after hearing this, I want to know more.
Hecate Enthroned are a British death metal band with gothic/operatic influences, kind of like Cradle of Filth except with less of the goth shit, and more of the death grit. Funnily enough, I'm pretty sure one of the founding members of this band joined CoF in the mid 90's... But that's the past. Flash forward to now, and we have this prime selection to delve into. "Embrace of The Godless Aeon" is without a doubt, one of the most interesting and certainly one of the most satisfying albums I've listened through in awhile, not missing a beat in terms of technicality or it's overall presentation. It's almost theatric at times, soaring with masterful instrumentals, and incredible vocal performances. And without overusing it, it weaves its gothic influences into an already maze-like structure. Often times there's a lot happening at once, but it's not disorienting and doesn't go overboard.
Speaking of labyrinths, the tracklist is all over the place in terms of variety. It starts off real simple with an intro track and then drops you in headfirst with the track "Revelations In Autumn Flame", a chaotic mix of blast beats and wailing guitars. The song "Goddess of Dark Misfits" is a monolith, wearing operatic influences proudly with a frankly very impressive performance from whoever they used for the female vocals. Whoever you are, WOW. The record almost clocks in at an hour, making this a bit of an intermediate listen, so be prepared for that if you feel like stomaching this record too.
Honestly, I've been impressed by metal bands in the past, but this is ludicrously good. If you have the patience to sit down and listen to it in its entirety, you'll understand.
