Filling up on some good stuff for breakfast this Saturday morning! Ragi porridge!!! Ragi / Finger Millet is a  very nutritious food grain. When Judah turned 6mos and I introduced him to solids, he ate ragi porridge every morning. It was bland (without salt or sugar) and made with baby formula lol and sometimes without but he would devour it like a little lion cub. 
Ragi is jam packed with healthy nutrients such as calcium, proteins, iron & vitamins. It is a complete food which works wonders for our overall health & well being. 
For us adults; It also aids in strengthening of bones, keeps blood sugar in check and reduces cholesterol levels. 
Today I added some cardamom, raw sugar and a pinch of salt 👌🏼 you can also add nuts. so filling and will keep this mama going for a while.

In India, you can get "home-made" ragi, but overseas like in NZ you can get it from the Indian store. Just check details like BB Date 😉

❤Add few tablespoons of milk and water and grind it into fine paste .
❤Strain the grinded paste to extract the ragi milk. Add little water and grind it again to extract further milk.

❤To a pan add the ragi milk and add either water or milk ( milk tastes better ) and keep stirring till it thickens slightly . Can add water or milk if needed to adjust the consistency .
❤Add Any sweetener of one's choice( preferably brown sugar or jaggery or even palm sugar or palm jaggery ) .
❤Can granish with nuts or sliced banana .
•ragi flour can also be used , by dissolving one or two tablespoon of ragi flour in little water to avoid lumps and then by adding milk it could be made the same way as above , but I have felt this way it tastes better .

These pancakes are so soft and delicious, your little ones will love them!! It turned my daughter into a pancake lover today :) .

They are delish and nutritious and keep mama and baby happy. Daddy loved them too 😋😋. They are full of protein , vitamins and fiber . .

Mash 1 banana. Mix with 1 egg. Add 3 tbsp almond meal,  1 tbsp ragi ( finger millet flour) , 1-2 tsp coco powder (depending on how chocolaty you prefer them ). Mix well and make small to medium size pancakes on low flame. Top with blueberries while cooking. Bigger size pancakes may break and high flame will burn these. Serve with toppings of your liking. Ragi or fingermillet adds to the dark chocolate color,  flavor and softness and is a #superfood highly recommended for babies. .

I tried my hands on Finger Millet(ragi) porridge.
What you’ll need for this bowl is- - 3 tbsp of ragi flour
- a cup of water
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 mashed banana
Mix the ragi flour in half a glass of water and stir it enough to leave no lumps.
Let it settle down for a while. Thereafter , mix the remaining water and milk in a vessel and warm it enough. At the point where it starts to boil, add the ragi mixture. (Have the mashed banana ready) 
Cook the ragi mixture in water-milk mixture until it thickens. Once done, add the mashed banana to it and enjoy!
I have been trying to prepare ragi infused meals since it is super healthy and is a good source of protein as well . 
This bowl literally tasted like a banoffee pie .
Of course , it differs from the oatmeal porridge in terms of it’s consistenty and texture and it was a struggle having the toppings hold up , 
The kiwis would sink instantly but the mashed banana helped . 😛

I am an enthusiastic cheerleader of the millet revival movement. Not only are these gluten-free cereals highly nutritious owing to their fibre, iron, calcium, protein and phytochemical content, what's better is that they very low cost (to the farmer and the environment) crops to grow. With their low water requirement and pest resistance, they make a strong case in efficient agriculture and world hunger/malnutrition solutions.

I use ragi flour quite a bit when substituting for white flour. Health food scoffers have returned to BUY more of the cake or pancakes made with this flour. Ragi dosa/cheelas are super quick to make. The sprouted flour is a great food for weaning babies. Certain millets are also my substitute for white rice.

RAAGI PUTTU/FINGER MILLET PUTTU/GRANDMA'S RECIPE

Hello everyone!! I am sharing with you all a healthy and traditional recipe which i remember my grandmother making for me often during my childhood days. It tastes really good and it is healthier and must have this once i a while. Let's see how to make this.

You will need RAAGI FLOUR/MIX, GRATED COCONUT, PALM SUGAR, PEANUTS and some GHEE.

Firstly, pulse around one cup of raagi flour and steam them in a steamer. Now if u don't have a steamer, use the idli maker. Steam for around 10mins.

Now into a mixing bowl, add the steamed flour and allow to cool little. Add in some ghee and mix well. Now add grated coconut, crushed and roasted peanuts and palm sugar as per your taste buds. Mix really well adding some ghee. Delicious raagi puttu is ready to enjoy.
