So, one of the biggest concerns with the Mavericks this offseason was their salary after they eventually sign Kristaps Porzingis. But unexpectedly, Dwight Powell actually DECLINED his $10.2mil Player Option for next season, the Mavericks now have more money to spare for other pieces. This was surprising since i dont think many NBA fans are expecting Dwight Powell to get offered $10.2mil in Free Agency by any other team so it was surprising to see him decline an ammount of money that he will probably not receive from another team. Not saying Powell's bad or anything like that cause he played really well for the Mavericks this past season, but im not sure if many teams will be willing to offer him $10+mil in this Free Agency for what he produced this past season.
Dwight Powell's 2018-19 Stats were:
10.6ppg, 5.3rpg & 1.5apg on 21.6mpg. He shot 59.7% from FG (FGA - 6.3) & he shot 30.7% from 3PT (3PA - 1.6).
Not bad numbers whatsoever but again, it still was surprising that he declined his $10.2mil Player Option since i dont think he will get offered more than $8mil per year by a team in Free Agency. But, maybe he just wants more playing time or a change of scenery in another team. He turns 28 years old in July so he's not super young but he's also not old. We'll see where he goes for next year.
